Murder #76 occurred on Sunday July 5th 2015

THE discovery of the body of a male, found shot dead in a car on the eastern end of Fire Trail Road early yesterday morning, has pushed the country’s murder count to 76 for the year, according to The Tribune’s records.

#Police have not released the name of the man, but Tribune sources have identified the victim as 41-year-old Ule “Skank” McKenzie.

#According to police reports, shortly after 2am, officers responded to reports of gunshots being fired in the Fire Trail Road area. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a man in the front seat of a Honda Accord, unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

#Officials pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Police are appealing to the public for assistance in solving the murder. Investigations are continuing.

#This death came after police in Grand Bahama on Friday reclassified what they first thought was a traffic fatality as a homicide.

#Police initially thought that a 31-year-old Williams Town man was killed as a result of a car crash in bushes on Creswell Road early last Thursday morning. However, on further investigation, they confirmed that it was not an accident that resulted in the man’s death.

#Inspector Terecita Pinder of Grand Bahama police reported that stab wounds were discovered in the victim’s upper chest area. An 18-year-old man is helping police in that investigation.

#These killings came more than a week after State Minister for National Security Keith Bell said the government is winning the war on crime, even as this year’s murder count outpaces the number recorded last year at this time.

#Speaking in the Senate on June 24, Senator Bell suggested that homicides should not be the sole indicator of how bad the country’s crime situation is.

#“We are winning because we have a comprehensive plan to address crime criminality,” he added. “We have implemented programmes to attack crime and its causes.”

Murder #75 Recorded on the island of Grand Bahama on Thursday July 2nd 2015

WHAT initially appeared to be a traffic fatality in Grand Bahama has now become a homicide investigation, taking the country’s murder count for the year to 75.

#Police initially thought that a 31-year-old Williams Town man was killed as a result of a car crash in bushes on Creswell Road early on Thursday morning. However, on further investigation, they confirmed that it was not an accident that resulted in the man’s death.

#Inspector Terecita Pinder of Grand Bahama Police reported that stab wounds were discovered in the victim’s upper chest area. Although police have not yet released the victim’s name, the deceased man is believed to be Vernon Smith, aka ‘Five-O’ of Williams Town.

#His death takes the island’s murder count to seven for the year.

#According to police reports, sometime around 7am on Thursday officers

#received information about a traffic accident on Creswell Road. It was reported that a man was driving a black 2004 Ford Escape, which crashed into a large pine tree in bushes. When officers arrived at the scene, the deceased was discovered dead outside the vehicle.

#“Initial reports are that on Thursday 2nd July 2015, this matter was reported as a traffic fatality,” Isnpector Pinder said. “Further investigation into the matter, and with the assistance of a pathologist, stab wounds to the upper chest of the deceased were discovered.”

#Inspector Pinder added that officers of the Central Detective Unit had arrested an 18-year-old male resident of Caravel Beach, who is assisting them with their investigation.

#Due to this, Grand Bahama’s traffic fatality count stands at seven for the year, not eight as reported.

A MAN was shot and killed in the Wilson Tract area off Wulff Road yesterday morning, pushing the country’s murder count for the first half of the year to 74.

#Police responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 11am and at the scene, officers found a 31-year-old man with gunshot wounds. Police said the man had been walking in the street when he was shot dead.

#Area residents have identified the victim as Teraz “Razz” Johnson.

#Officer-in-charge of the Central Detective Unit, Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle, told reporters that police are looking for a gunman who was seen arguing with the victim before his death.

#“Our preliminary information is that this young man was walking through a track road along with another male, when it appears as though there was an exchange of words between both of them. The young man that was along with him produced a handgun and began discharging shots in his direction.

#“The assailant then ran west towards Wilson Tract and disappeared out of the view of those persons in the general vicinity. We are asking persons in this area that might have seen anything to come forward and provide that information to the police so that we can advance this investigation,” Chief Supt Rolle added.

#Meanwhile, Khandi Gibson, president and founder of outreach group Families of All Murder Victims (FOAM), yesterday questioned how high the nation’s homicide toll had to rise before government and citizens took issue with it.

#The total of 74 to the end of June is considerably ahead of the 64 in the same period in 2014.

#Ms Gibson said the time for pointing fingers has passed, adding that the only way to solve the country’s crime problem is through unity.

#“I think now is the time for us to band together, unite; the blame game has to stop now,” she told The Tribune. “Whoever had the billboard signs up, who didn’t have it up, who said they were going to win the war on crime – no one is winning. Persons are losing their loved ones daily and only the family members left behind are the real victims.

#“These families are hurting, the majority of these murders are happening in the ghetto. We now have to unite. Let’s stop pointing fingers now and come together, enough is enough.”

#Ms Gibson warned that there was a potential for retaliation shootings following yesterday’s incident.

#“Every time there is a murder there is concern about a retaliation because when people feel like the police have failed them, the justice system failed them, what else is left for them to do?

#“It is sad, I don’t want to see it happen, but what is really left for the people to do? They want answers, they are hurting, they are angry and the sad part about it is the government has put nothing in place for family members who are traumatised.”

Murder count now stands at #72 as of June 24th 2015,

ONE MAN is dead and another in serious condition in hospital after they were shot multiple times while walking through Montell Heights on Tuesday night.

#This latest murder brings the country’s homicide count to 73 for the year, police said yesterday.

#Assistant Commissioner of Police Stephen Dean said the victims were walking with a group of men on Ethel Street shortly after 9pm when they were approached by men in a silver coloured Honda.

#“The Honda vehicle pulled up and the occupants fired several shots at the group of men and sped off,” ACP Dean said.

#“The men were shot multiple times. One of the men was very seriously injured. Both of the victims were taken to hospital where one of the victims died of his injuries. The other man is in serious condition. We are in the early stages of our investigation and our detectives and police officers were on the ground early canvassing the area and talking to witnesses and based on that, I can tell you we are following significant leads and we believe this is a matter that we are going to wrap up very soon.”

AN ARGUMENT involving several people at a Gladstone Road bar in Nassau early today resulted in the death of a woman and a man in serious condition in hospital, police are reporting.

#Officers are investigating the incident, which they say occurred shortly after 1am on Saturday when several persons were involved in an argument at the bar, leading to a man and a woman being struck by a vehicle.She has been identified as 19 year old Dajon Woodside.

#Both were rushed to hospital, where the woman succumbed to her injuries and the man remains in serious condition.

#A 19-year-old male is in custody assisting police with their investigations.

Murder count #71

Murder now stands at #71when a man was shot and killed off Cox' way on Sunday June 21st 2015.

Last night a 34year old man who was on bail for murder was killed last night on cox way. BN is told that the male was riddle with bullets to the head and upper body. It said that the country latest murdered victim, murdered someone in Abaco on January 18th.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the suspect/s responsible for the death of a man on Sunday 21st June 2014.

According to reports, shortly after 10:30pm, police received a report that a man was found dead in bushes on Cox Way off East Street South. When police arrived on the scene, they met the lifeless body of a male with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The male was officially pronounced dead at the scene. Police can confirm that the victim was being electronically monitored and is on bail for an indictable offence.

Investigations are ongoing.
