Murder #27

THE body of a woman was found “burnt beyond recognition” in her home in the White’s Addition area off Kemp Road early yesterday morning.
Residents in the small community identified the victim as 33-year-old, mother of three, Tiffany Knowles.
Chief Superintendent Paul Rolle, officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit, said around 7am, a man arrived at the Wulff Road Police Station and reported that he had been involved in an argument with a woman believed to be his wife at their home.
“Officers left the station to investigate this report and upon arrival in the White’s Addition area met a two-story concrete structure engulfed in fire,” Chief Supt Rolle said.
“Fire apparatuses were summoned and upon arrival extinguished the fire. When officers went through the interior they found the charred, burnt remains believed to be a human being burnt beyond recognition.”
Chief Supt Rolle said police were investigating the matter as a homicide. There were also reports that the victim has stab wounds, however police did not confirm this.
“An autopsy will have to be performed to determine if the body discovered here was who he said it was and the exact cause of death,” Chief Supt Rolle added.
Chief Supt Rolle confirmed that a 34-year-old male was helping police with the investigation into the woman’s death and the suspected arson.
Scores of grieving neighbours filled the street corners near the home of the young Straw Market vendor. The victim’s older brother, attorney Ian Cargill, had to be guided away from the scene shortly after he arrived.
Prescola Hall, an aunt of the victim, said her niece was a “happy, loving person that always put her children first.”
Visibly distraught, Mrs Hall said she still couldn’t come to grips with the idea of her niece being dead.
“It so hard to believe that Tiffany is gone, murdered, I can’t believe it - I don’t want to believe it,” she said.
Sources informed The Tribune that Mrs Knowles had been married for 11 years, but had been separated for the last two years due to “persistent issues.” The source indicated that despite their issues, Mrs Knowles still loved her husband and was willing to reconcile because of their three children, the youngest a three-year-old son.
“I know some things were going on between them recently because up to Monday she was at the station asking them for their help with a matter between them. That woman loved her kids and wanted to make it work for them,” added the source.
Police investigations are continuing.
